Background

Sundar is a 25-year-old artisan from a small rural farming household. She lives with her parents, four sisters, and two brothers. Her father depends on agriculture for the family’s livelihood, while her mother is a homemaker who also supports farm work. Her two brothers work outside the village to earn and send money home, helping the family manage basic needs.

Sundar completed her education up to the 8th grade. Financial constraints and household responsibilities prevented her from continuing further studies. From a young age, she learned responsibility, resilience, and patience, managing daily chores, supporting her parents, and looking after her younger siblings. These experiences shaped her quiet determination to create a better future for herself and her family.

Skills and Craftsmanship

Sundar’s Craftsmanship:

Sundar has always been inclined toward creative work, though opportunities in her village were limited. When the TAC Center opened, she joined the Wall Art training program, learning design, detailing, and finishing techniques.

Through mentorship and practice, she refined her craft, blending traditional cultural motifs with her own creativity. Her artwork now reflects a balance of heritage and innovation, appealing both locally and beyond. Sundar has developed the discipline and confidence needed to produce high-quality work consistently, earning recognition as an artisan in her own right.

Inspiration

Sundar draws inspiration from her parents’ dedication and her brothers’ sacrifices. Witnessing her family’s hard work motivated her to contribute meaningfully without leaving her village.

The TAC Center and its community of women artisans encouraged her to believe in herself. Observing peers learn, earn, and support their families inspired Sundar to pursue art not just as a passion, but as a tool for livelihood, dignity, and empowerment.

Personal Journey

Growing up with limited means, Sundar faced early responsibility. Completing her 8th grade, she prioritized helping her family over further education. Many days were filled with household and farm work, yet she longed for a path to explore her creativity.

Joining TAC was a turning point. For the first time, she experienced structured learning and mentorship, discovering that her work had value. Balancing training with household duties required perseverance, but Sundar used challenges as motivation.

Today, Sundar has transformed from a quiet helper at home into a confident artisan. She contributes to her family’s income, supports her father, and inspires her younger sisters to believe that women can have dreams and careers.

Impact

Sundar’s Empowering Journey:

  • Financial Contribution: Earns through her artwork, reducing family dependence on her father and brothers.

  • Self-confidence: Has grown into a woman who speaks about her work with pride.

  • Leadership Qualities: Encourages other women to join training and explore their talents.

  • Family Transformation: Supports her household and motivates her sisters to pursue education.

Sundar’s journey proves that with training, encouragement, and opportunity, rural women can become agents of change, uplifting themselves, their families, and their communities.

Personal Note

Dear WomenServe Team,

My name is Sundar, and I am 25 years old. I belong to a farming family. My father works in the fields, my mother manages the home, and my two brothers work outside the village. I studied up to class 8 and have since been helping at home and in the fields.

Joining TAC changed my life. The Wall Art training helped me discover creativity, courage, and confidence. I now feel proud that I can support my family and contribute meaningfully. I want to continue improving my skills and inspire my sisters and other young women in my village to believe in their own strength.

Your support has given me hope and dignity, and for that, I am deeply grateful. I promise to carry forward this opportunity, not only for my growth but also to encourage other women in my community.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Ms. Sundar
