Beneficiary: Seema Kanwar, 23 years, Artisan
Village: Kansingh ki Seed, Tehsil Bap, District Phalodi
Background
Seema Kanwar belongs to a humble farming family in a remote village of Rajasthan. At just 23 years of age, she carries the weight of both dreams and responsibilities.
Her father works tirelessly in agriculture, often battling uncertain weather and unpredictable income. Her mother manages the household while also supporting farming work during the season. Seema has two brothers who left the village for labor to support the family and one sister who is still in school.
Like most rural families, theirs has always struggled with limited financial resources. Every rupee earned was carefully divided between education, household expenses, and farming needs.
As a young daughter of the house, Seema grew up watching her parents make sacrifices silently—her father’s calloused hands from years of farming and her mother’s quiet endurance inspired her to be strong. She realized early on that if she wanted to make a difference in her family’s life, she had to find her own way to contribute.
Skills and Experience: Artisanal and Creative Growth
Seema’s Craftsmanship:
Seema always had an eye for beauty and creativity—drawing patterns in the sand as a child or experimenting with colors on paper. But her village offered no formal platform to develop these interests. The opening of the TAC Center changed that.
At TAC, she enrolled in the Wall Art training program, where she learned not only artistic techniques but also patience, discipline, and the importance of detail. Over time, Seema developed expertise in:
-
Traditional Rajasthani wall designs & motifs
-
Modern patterns appealing to urban tastes
-
Combining cultural heritage with contemporary creativity
Today, she can transform ordinary walls into living canvases, reflecting both tradition and modern imagination. Her work has gained appreciation not only in her village but also in nearby communities.
Inspiration
For Seema, inspiration comes from two sources—family and community.
-
Watching her father’s endless labor with little financial return motivated her to explore alternative livelihoods.
-
Her mother’s quiet resilience became her inner strength.
Beyond family, Seema also found motivation in her peers at TAC, surrounded by other women artisans breaking barriers. For the first time, she realized that rural women can step beyond household walls, explore their creativity, and contribute meaningfully to family income.
Personal Story
Seema’s life is a story of courage and quiet transformation. Born in a family where education and resources were always stretched, she often felt limited by her environment. Yet, she refused to accept that her role should only be confined to household chores.
When she joined TAC, she faced self-doubt:
-
“Would I be able to learn?”
-
“Will my family allow me to continue?”
-
“Can creativity really bring income?”
With guidance from trainers and encouragement from fellow artisans, her doubts slowly turned into confidence.
Today, Seema balances household duties with her craft. She takes care of her home, helps her mother, and still dedicates time to her artwork. Her younger sister now looks up to her as a role model, proof that girls can aspire to more than just household labor.
Impact
The transformation TAC has brought into Seema’s life is remarkable:
-
She is now able to contribute financially to her household without leaving her village.
-
Additional earnings have brought a sense of stability, reducing her family’s sole reliance on farming.
-
She has shifted mindsets in her community—neighbors now celebrate her achievements and respect her work.
-
Seema has grown from a shy young woman into someone who confidently explains her designs, mentors other learners, and inspires younger girls.
Her journey demonstrates that one opportunity can transform not just an individual, but uplift a family, inspire a community, and create lasting social change.
Personal Note
Dear WomenServe Family,
My name is Seema Kanwar, and I am 23 years old. I come from a farming family where every member contributes to survival—my father in the fields, my mother in household and farm work, my brothers working outside the village, and my sister still studying.
For years, I wanted to do something meaningful but lacked opportunity. I used to wonder, “Can a village girl like me really make a difference?”
TAC became my turning point. Through your support, I was able to join the Wall Art training program. I learned skills that gave me not only income but also dignity and respect. Today, when I paint designs on walls, I feel I am not just creating art—I am building hope for my family and my future.
Your support has changed the way I see myself. I am no longer just a farmer’s daughter; I am an artisan, a contributor, and an inspiration for younger girls in my village.
Thank you for believing in women like me. Because of you, my journey has moved from struggle to strength, from doubt to confidence, and from silence to self-expression.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Ms. Seema Kanwar
