Prakash Kanwar

Prakash Kanwar, a 30-year-old woman from Naya Gaun, lives with her husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law, and two children—a son and a daughter who are attending school. While managing household responsibilities, she always aspired to contribute financially to her family and achieve independence.

Entry into TAC & Skill Development

Around 18 months ago, Prakash joined the TAC Naya Gaun Center as an artisan. At that time, she had very little experience in embroidery or stitching.

Through structured training, guidance from trainers, and persistent practice, she gradually learned hand embroidery and machine stitching, transforming her curiosity into a marketable skill.

Livelihood Expansion & Leadership

Alongside her work at the center, Prakash started home-based livelihood activities, preparing and selling papad, moong badi, and rabodi, generating additional income for her household.

“Being part of the Self-Help Group has given me confidence to lead, speak, and take decisions not only for myself but for other women in my village.”

Her combined center-based and home-based work has helped her achieve a stable source of income.

Achievements & Impact

Through dedication and skill improvement, Prakash is now actively involved in production-level work at the TAC center. In December 2025, she earned INR 1,400 by producing tote bags, marking a tangible milestone in her journey toward economic independence.

Since joining TAC, Prakash has:

  • Improved technical skills and productivity

  • Gained regular income opportunities

  • Strengthened confidence, decision-making, and financial awareness

  • Actively contributed to household expenses and her children’s education

Aspirations

Prakash dreams of becoming a fully self-reliant woman. She hopes to inspire other women in her village to learn new skills, engage in livelihood activities, and achieve financial independence, just as she has.

Her journey demonstrates how dedication, training, and guidance can transform traditional skills into sustainable income opportunities, empowering women economically and socially while giving them confidence, respect, and hope.

“I sincerely thank the TAC Center and the Self-Help Group for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to lead. This platform has helped me gain confidence, skills, and a strong voice. Together, we are creating better livelihoods for women in our community.”
